I was born in Accrington, East Lancashire, and way back in 1967.
Growing up on a council estate, coming from a broken family, and having the teenage years from hell, I often reminisce over the few good times that I had... in my series of short stories. Having so many memories it isn’t difficult to beat the dreaded writer’s block.
I left scho ol without any qualifications. I studied art at night school whilst employed as a demolition worker. That didn’t go down to well with the lads on site!
A few years later, I decided to leave my home town, and take my chances elsewhere. Barrow-in-Furness was my destination. I worked as a bouncer in one of the roughest night clubs in the small, ship-building, town. They were hard times, but I do miss them. Next, I was off to Bootle, Merseyside, where I worked in pub as a barman-come-doorman. Next up was Lincoln and then on to my present location, Grimsby, in North East Lincolnshire. Of course there’s a lot more to the story and who knows, someday, I might get around to telling it.
I married in February 2009, and now live happily with my supportive wife, Marie.
My favourite author, and the source of my inspiration, is Maureen Lee. After reading one of her many stories set in Liverpool, I was hooked. Ms Lee specialises in simplifying regional dialect, but, at the same time keeping it real.
My wife and I both work. I am currently working in the security industry, and my wife in catering, part-time. Like many thousands of writers we would struggle without regular employment.
My typical writing day is not a day at all, I usually write through the night. I find I produce my best work in the hours of darkness. Whilst everybody else is in bed sleeping, I find I have all the peace, and quiet that I need. (One way of beating writer's block?)
